Field Trip

Flower Grower

Last week our class took a field trip to Gallup & Stribling Orchids in Carpinteria California

Here is what we found out during our trip. Gallup & Stribling's home farm occupies 48 acres along the central California coast just south of Santa Barbara. With more than 1.5 million square feet of greenhouse space, it is a state—of—the—art breeding, growing and distribution facility. In recent years there has been a steady increase in the demand for long-lasting Cymbidium Sprays. Consequently, they have instituted an aggressive breeding program and will continue to release new varieties each year. These breeding advances benefit both the cut flower and potted plant markets. Meeting the needs of their customers in this way has always been — and will remain — their first priority.

Thoughts from the Editor

November

November has been an exciting month for our Virtual Enterprise Company, Winchester Flowers and Gifts. There is so much do do to prepare our business plan. Our CEO created the Executive Summary and produced an organizational chart of all of our employees and oversaw the completion of the report from start to finish. Our Accounting Department prepared a beginning balance sheet and projected income statements, They produced a cash flow and break-even analysis, prepared the business contract and business loan. Our Human Resources Department created an employee manual containing all the rules and regulations that affect our company and as you can see, a Newsletter for the month of November. Our Information Technology Department has been busy creating a web page with shopping cart and preparing a video commercial for the competitions in Bakersfield. Our Sales Department has been busy with the marketing plan competition and putting together its part of the business plan for our company. In addition, they attended a club day in our auditorium set up or newly created booth and virtually sold over $50,00 worth of flowers and gifts.
